Jammu, Apr 14: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that his government has decided to give a chance to the sick public sector undertakings to come out of the red. "The government is aware that closing down such units will lead to an economic distress for the working class. Jobs are limited in this era. Hence, the government has decided to give a chance to these units to come on a sound footing, Dr Godbole Committee recommendations notwithstanding," he said. Addressing a function organised by the state chapter of the Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Akademy in connection with the 112th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, Sayeed asserted that "gun is no solution to any problem." Issues should be resolved through the process of reconciliation and dialogue.

"Be it terrorism or fight against inequality and injustice, the solution lies in non-violent methods as propounded by Mahatma Gandhi in his universally accepted philosophy of ahimsa," he said.
Asserting that his government's policy was to remove injustice in the society by addressing its root cause, Sayeed said, "The coalition government will not belie people's expectations."
"Jammu and Kashmir is passing through a critical phase and it should be the joint effort of the government and people to turn around the situation with a sense of commitment and dedication," he said.

However, the state is "fortunate" to be free from social evils like untouchability, discrimination on the basis of caste and class inequality, he added.
