Lucknow, Feb 15: Mukhtar Ansari, the convicted independent MLA from Mau, would soon be making an appeal before the Supreme Court against his conviction by the designated TADA court. An appeal against the conviction and ten years jail sentence by the designated TADA court would be made before the Supreme Court soon, Ansari told newspersons here.
Ansari faces disqualification as member of the state assembly following his conviction. As per the Representation of People`s Act, a legislator is liable to be disqualified three months from the date of his conviction.
Brought to Lucknow to appear before the sessions court here in connection with a murder case, Ansari said that he would also be seeking permission to attend the state`s Vidhan Sabha session beginning February 28.
Ansari, who was expelled from the BSP just before the last assembly elections, has already extended his support to Chief Minister Mayawati in writing.
Ansari, lodged at the district jail in the state capital, would be taken to Azamgarh for appearing in another criminal case on February 18 next. Bureau Report
