The Mughal Gardens, one of the richest rose gardens in the world, will be thrown open to the public from Sunday. Housed in the premises of Rashtrapati Bhawan, the magnificent gardens, which is thrown open to the public every year during February-March, in the onset of spring, will remain open upto March 17, a Rashtrapati Bhawan release said in New Delhi. Schools desirous of organising visit of children below the age of 10 years to Mughal Gardens could contact two days in advance for the entry on priority basis, the release said. Covering an area of 15 acres, the garden, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, inspired by beautiful gardens in Kashmir and around Taj Mahal, is a perfect synthesis of the Mughal and European styles, it said. With numerous variety of roses including Bonne Nuit and Oklahoma, which were nearest to being black, Paradise, Blue moon and Lady X in blue and rare Gree Rose, the splendid gardens derives its evergreen character from trees like Moulsri, Putranjiva Roxburgi, Cypress, China Orange and shrubs of roses.
