Lucknow, Apr 15: Questioning Mayawati government's decision to order probe into distribution of discretionary fund during his tenure as Uttar Pradesh governor, senior Congress leader Motilal Vora today asserted he had never misused the fund and gave money only through cheques to needy persons. "I have never misused the fund. I have not given money to anyone in cash. The money was given to needy persons only in the form of cheques through district magistrates," he told journalists here.
"Everything is in black and white. This can be verified from government records," Vora said.
Questioning the government's decision to order probe, he said whether a chief minister has the right to order an inquiry into governor's decision.
"I am not sure whether a chief minister enjoys that power. I am looking into legal aspects of the matter."
Mayawati, at a rally here yesterday, said her government had orderded an inquiry into the "misuse" of discretionary fund by the former governor who, she alleged, distributed around Rs 18 crore during his brief stint in Raj Bhavan.
