Strappy shoes that lace and buckle up the leg were in plentiful supply on the Spring runways. In New York, Alice Roi shod her models (styled with Princess Leia braids under hunters` caps) in buckled gladiator sandals. In Paris, John Galliano at Christian Dior showed boot-like skin shoes, complete with ankle guards, buckles and compartments designed for Motorola-wielding urban commandos. Things took a more feminine turn at Christian Lacroix, Jill Stuart and Antonio Berardi, where suede lace-ups sprouted Pegasus-like foliage at the heel. It was Julio Espada at Pucci, however, who took the boldest step. His "emperor`s new shoes" slip over the ball of the foot and lace up, adorning the leg while leaving the feet mostly bare.
