The Meghalaya United Democratic Party (MUDP) has been recognised by speaker E D Marak even as chief minister E K Mawlong, whose ministry has been reduced to a minority, on Friday claimed that half of those who had broken away and formed the new party, would return.
The speaker said here that formation of the MUDP under leadership of former finance minister A H Scott Lyngdoh had been found to be in order and therefore he had accorded it recognition on Thursday after considering all constitutional intricacies.
However, Mawlong said that four of the eight MLAs who had left the UDP would return. Four of the MLAs who left the UDP will return. “Let the governor come back. I will also prove my majority in the house,” he said.
Asked how many MLAs still supported him, he shot back “I will not tell you.” Bureau Report
