Sri Lankan Army launched a major attack on Tamil Tiger rebels in the country's east Saturday, hours after the guerillas attacked a military camp, the Defense Ministry said. "We are advancing and taking on the terrorists," military spokesman Brig. Sanath Karunaratne said.
Two soldiers were killed and six wounded in the first wave of attack. The army killed at least four rebels, Karunaratne said, quoting the first report reaching Colombo from the battle field.

"The terrorists have suffered much more casualties, but right now we have a body count of four," he said.
The offensive was launched after the rebels attacked a military camp near Trincomallee, 230 kilometers northeast of Colombo early Saturday. Bureau Report
