Southern Iraq, Mar 22: Soldiers from the US army's
air assault division crossed into southern Iraq today to play
what one commander said would be a "significant role" in the
coalition onslaught.
More than 1,000 vehicles from the 101st airborne
division, the "screaming eagles", had massed in northern
Kuwait near the Iraqi border yesterday.
The first of them, carrying weapons and supplies for the
division's fleet of 270 helicopters, including attack apaches
and multi-purpose black hawks, crossed into Iraq today.
