Chennai, Mar 26: Reliance Infostreams, the BPO arm of the Reliance Group, is setting up a large call centre in Chennai to provide customer relationship management services to Reliance Infocomm for all the four circles in the south. Reliance Infostreams has taken on long-term lease of a one-lakh sqft property close to the Ambattur Industrial Estate in the city for establishing the domestic call centre with a capacity of 800-1,000 seats.
This facility will be a 24/7 centre handling primarily customer calls of Reliance Infocomm in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. “We expect the centre to commence operations by June-July ’04,” sources said.
The BPO arm is in the process of creating a team of 1,000-1,200 professionals for the new facility, which requires people well versed in regional languages as well. It has already started the recruitment process through a manpower consultancy firm.
It may be noted that currently, Reliance Infostreams is providing customer care services to the customers of Reliance India Mobile and Reliance India Phone from its Mumbai facility.
Once the Chennai facility goes on stream, the Mumbai centre would stop handling the southern markets and focus on other regions. The Mumbai facility of Relaince Infostreams is said to be the largest domestic call centre in the country, with a capacity of 3,100 seats. It provides services to customers of a leading bank in the US.
The company’s future plan is to have about 5,000 seats across various locations in India. Reliance appears to have selected Chennai to set up its second centre since Reliance Infocomm has emerged a market leader in Tamil Nadu in mobile phones in a short span and is targeting a subscriber base of one million by this month-end.
Reliance Infostream’s portfolio of services includes customer acquisition, customer service, retention and life cycle management by providing multimedia and multi-language based, inbound and outbound customer support through various customer touch points like phone, fax, email and letters.
