Opposition to apprise Governor on law and order collapse
Mumbai, Nov 08: Alleging that Democratic Front (DF) government in Maharashtra was `safegurading its political interest` by not handing over the multi-crore stamp-paper racket to the CBI, the Shiv Sena-BJP led opposition today said its leaders would meet Governor Mohammed Fazal and apprise him about the collapse of law and order in the state.
Mumbai, Nov 08: Alleging that Democratic Front (DF)
government in Maharashtra was “safegurading its political
interest” by not handing over the multi-crore stamp-paper
racket to the CBI, the Shiv Sena-BJP led opposition today said
its leaders would meet Governor Mohammed Fazal and apprise him
about the collapse of law and order in the state.
Although the opposition had repeatedly demanded a CBI
inquiry into the stamp-paper racket the DF government was bent
upon safeguarding its political interest by not handing over
the case to CBI, opposition leader in the state legislative
assembly Narayan Rane alleged.
The arrest of senior police officials in the case has once again indicated that the situation in the state home department was very serious, he told reporters adding, they would apprise the Governor about this.
State BJP president Gopinath Munde said that the DF government had lost moral right to rule when the reputation of the state home department was adversely affected by the arrest of senior police officials.
Stating that corruption in the home department, which comes under control of Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, has flourished, Munde alleged and said, "It is time for Congress-NCP to consider whether Bhujbal was a liability or asset to them." He justified the demand of CBI inquiry into the scam and role played by prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi, stating that the biggest ever corruption case in the state has also snatched away revenue of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Munde questioned DF government's refusal to publish the annexure of Subodh Jaiswal Committee report in which the lapses in investigations in the stamps scam were pointed out clearly.
The BJP leader said the Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal have violated the oath of secrecy by disclosing the details of file for appointing state director general of police. Bureau Report
