New Delhi, May 23: Left parties today deferred till May 26 a decision on the Congress offer of Lok Sabha Speaker`s post to veteran leader Somnath Chatterjee.
New Delhi, May 23: Left parties today deferred till May 26 a decision on the Congress offer of Lok Sabha Speaker's post to veteran leader Somnath Chatterjee.
The decision to defer the issue was taken at the meeting of top leaders of Left parties, CPI (M) General Secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet told reporters after the meeting.
The meeting was attended by A B Bardhan and D Raja of CPI, Sitaram Yetchury of CPI (M) and Abani Roy of RSP among others.
Meanwhile, the CPI (M)'s politburo meeting is scheduled in Kolkata on Tuesday to discuss draft Common Minimum Programme.
The Left Party leaders have already welcomed the general direction of the draft CMP.
They have been maintaining that the central focus should be on people's welfare and not on corporate profit. Bureau Report
