Patiala, Oct 07: A local court today extended the police remand of Shamsher Singh, a brother of noted singer Daler Mehndi, till October 11 in a fraud and cheating case.
Shamsher Singh was produced in the court of senior sub judge P S Dhanoa who extended his police remand till Oct 11.
Shamsher Singh, Mehndi and others have been charged with cheating people on the promise of taking them abroad as part of his troupe and then leaving them in Canada and the USA.
The case was registered on the complaint of one Bakshish Singh, a resident of Belwara in the district, who alleged that he had paid Rs 13 lakh out of the Rs 15 lakh demanded for sending him abroad.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Paramraj Singh denied Mehndi's allegations that he had sought Rs 1.50 crore from the latter and threatened to implicate him in the case if the amount was not paid.
Paramraj Singh said he would file a defamation case against Mehndi if he did not withdraw his false and baseless allegations.
He said that the role of the noted singer in the case was being probed and there were no immediate plans to arrest him.
Sixteen more complaints of similar nature have been received, the SSP said.
