Bhubaneswar, May 12: The BJP in Orissa today demanded a ban of the left extremist organisations who, it said, had expanded their activities in the state. A spokesman for the BJP's Orissa unit, Rajkishore Das, told reporters here that the growing activities of the ultras were a cause for worry.
He said the matter was discussed at the party's two-day state executive meeting, which concluded here today. The government must modernise the police force and impart special training to combat the ultras adept in guerrilla warfare, he said adding the state police must work in close cooperation with those of Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand governments.
The government should make use of the Pota to arrest such activists, Das said. Besides, developmental works like education, health care and communication should be taken up through long-term action programmes, the spokesman said.
Activists of the Peoples' War have been operating in the southern districts of Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati districts, while those of MCC have infiltrated into the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj in recent times. Bureau Report
