One of the suspects behind the Hooch tragedy at Natham village, which claimed over 50 lives, has allegedly committed suicide at Ulundurpet in Villupuram district, police said on Monday. The body of Mattakalai alias Govindan had been recovered and sent for post-mortem, they said.
Doctors at the government hospital said they had shifted 10 of those who had consumed the poisonous brew to intensive care unit and their condition was critical. Meanwhile, five more policemen attached to Pudupet police station had been suspended taking the total number of police personnel suspended to 13.
An all-party meeting convened Sunday night demanded filing criminal cases against the erring police personnel and a judicial probe into the tragedy.
