Kathmandu, Sept 17: On the eve of a three-day general strike called by Maoist rebels, the Nepal government today imposed night curfew throughout the Kathmandu valley. The curfew, which would be in place for seven hours every night from 9 pm local time, has been imposed as a precautionary measure, Radio Nepal said.

The government also banned pillion riding on two-wheelers in the three valley districts of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur for a week from today for security reasons.

A similar ban is already in place in famous tourist places in the Himalayan kingdom from Monday, when suspected Maoists riding a motor-cycle shot dead a policeman.
