Itanagar, Feb 18: Arunachal Pradesh government has proposed to hold panchayat elections shortly for which preparatory exercises were going on, state Governor Arvind
Dave said today.
The elections would be held to increase grass root level
participation in governance, Dave told a one-day session of
the state assembly.
Referring to insurgent activities, he said the state government had enacted the Arunachal Pradesh Control of Organised Crime Act (APCOCA) 2002.
Congratulating the people of the state for maintaining peace and harmony and thereby making rapid stride in development inspite of difficult fiscal circumstances, Dave also maintained that his government would not leave a stone unturned to mobilise local resources to accelerate the pace of development.
Addressing the first session of the assembly in this year, the governor said the difficult financial situation was created by the contractionary fiscal policies of the Central government and a shortfall in the devolution of central taxes.
However, the state government did not allow the developmental thrust to be blunted and continued to channel the sources into the productive sectors of the economy, he said.
During his 20-minute address, the Governor dwelt at length on the new policies adopted by the state government particularly in the field of agriculture, horticulture, tourism and power besides developing marketing infrastructure to facilitate disposal of surpluses. Bureau Report
