Chennai, Oct 25: CPI-M central committee member and CITU leader K Rangarajan today said the Madras High Court's verdict, striking down two government orders, which curtailed the pensionary and retirement benefits of government staff, has proved that the strike by the employees in July was 'justified'. "The verdict was a moral victory for the employees who went on a strike demanding the withdrawal of curtailed economic benefits," Rangarajan said.
The recent state government notification, bringing 27 government departments under purview of the Tamil Nadu Essential Services Maintenance Act was 'unnecessary' and should be withdrawn immediately, he said. On the Centre's decision to give more teeth to the Pota Review Committee, he said such things would not prevent the act's 'misuse'. The act should be repealed, he said. CPI-M's Tamil Nadu unit would organise an 'anti-dowry' conference here on Wednesday, he said adding that dowry was a social evil. Bureau Report
