Srinagar, Sept 17: The Jammu and Kashmir government today reviewed at a high level meeting the arrangements for holding free, fair, transparent and peaceful polls for the remaining three phases of elections in the state.
The meeting, chaired by state chief secretary I S Malhi, dwelt on security and other election related measures to ensure conducive atmosphere for the voters to exercise their franchise freely and fearlessly. Malhi asked the deputy commissioners of the districts, going to polls in the rest of the three phases, to ensure adequate security to all the contesting candidates and the polling staff.
He emphasised that micro-level details for the poll and security related aspects need to be worked out in strict adherence with the model code of conduct. Malhi lauded the administration of the five districts, which went to polls yesterday, for holding free, fair and peaceful elections.
Notwithstanding the anti-election campaign by some disgruntled elements, the people have given a befitting reply to such elements by coming out in large numbers to cast their votes, he said.
Chief electoral officer Pramod Jain, who also attended the meeting, lauded the district election machineries, the security agencies and poll staff for smooth conduct of first phase of elections.
