Kathmandu, Nov 10: Octogenarian Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala has said that may seek re-election to the post of party chief for the third term. Koirala told reporters in the eastern Nepal town of Biratnagar that he may contest for the party's presidency during the next general convention as the party's statute does not block him to seek re-election.

The Nepali leader said that he was not in favour of handing over the leadership to the new generation.

"I am opposed to the idea of favouring any one as my successor," he said.

"No one should seek the party's top post with the blessings from the high command," he said adding "one should contest the election to grab the leadership and I will give my final decision regarding re-election to the top post once the general convention date is fixed. His daughter, Sujata Koirala, who is also active in politics, said that appropriate time has not yet come to hand over leadership to the younger generation.

"The younger generation should prove their capability to grab the party leadership," she said.

When asked whether she was also aspiring for the party leadership, Sujata, who is in her late forties, said, "I have not yet build that much capability".
