Mumbai, June 01: Hrithik Roshan, boy enigma, superstar in 2000. Redoubtable in 2003. Suddenly the very same adulators who raised him to icon level in 2000 were as keen to bring him down. A revolution was needed to replace the icon atop the pedestal.
And Big Daddy Rakesh Roshan has intervened to take up the construction process of the superstar arena. And the revolution is promising to be a drastic one - one that may well change the face of Indian cinema forever.

Come July and the unveiling of a magnum opus may well take place. Rakesh Roshan is set to relaunch his son with Koi Mil Gaya. And what is different about the second father-son offering is the totally different treatment of the subject, the star and the performances. In fact, it is as alien as it can get from the run-of-the-mill that is biting the dust in cinemas across the country.

Firstly, it`s for the first time that a hunky, glamourous, sex-symbol lead hero is playing a mentally regressive character with the mind of a child. That itself is enough to elicit gasps of disbelief among his many score fans. And secondly, the film is so hatke from the earthly offerings of Planet Bollywood, that it’s actually a space project. Says Hrithik: "I wanted to do a film where people and friends say, Hey, don`t see this on the small screen, it`s a big screen film. It`s an effort to create a new understanding in the minds of the audience!"

Yes, the film has a space ship, outer space creatures and even a friendly, out-worldly alien making a stunning entry into the Indian movie world, a la E.T. Sensational stuff alright, for the Indian movie scenario. But one needed, if only for the viva la difference, from the sleep-inducing scripts being churned out by brain dead assembly line zombies.

Koi Mil Gaya follows the no-guts no-glory route by taking a risk that not many Indian makers would dare take. Meaning that if Rakesh Roshan`s calculated risk takes off, the film may well go down in movie history as a cult film, a path breaking film.

And Rakesh will win all the accolades for going where no man (star) has gone before. And if anyone is more than determined to make it work it is Hrithik himself. Because it is for him that the stakes are so high. Either this reinvention, in terms of character and distinct story, will elevate him to different levels or it may, well...

Hrithik, however, doesn`t think it is a risk for him as an actor. "I don`t think it is that much of risk for an actor," he claims, "In fact, it`s a blessing. It`s a chance of a lifetime to do something different. But yes, as far as the film is concerned, it is very very risky."

To conclude, sources say the film is inspired by the runaway hit TV serial Mork & Mindy. While that created a few stars, what Koi Mil Gaya will do for Hrithik remains to be seen. One thing is for sure. By this film hang a lot of hopes and aspirations.
