Beijing, Jan 15: China today banned import of poultry products from countries like Japan, South Korea and Vietnam which have been hit by the bird flu. According to an announcement made by the administration of quality supervision, inspection and quarantine (Saqsiq), China will enact major measures to halt poultry imports from countries hit by the bird flu.
Live poultry and related products such as eggs and feather are all listed in china's ban against Vietnam, Japan, South Korea and other affected countries. China will also halt any direct or indirect poultry imports in all entry-and-exit ports, a news agency reported.
Poultry from the affected regions will be prevented from entering China through mail or by being brought in by tourists. Birds which have arrived in China from the affected regions will be sent back or slaughtered, the report said.
An outbreak of bird flu has been reported in many countries in southeast Asia leading to mass culling of chickens. In Vietnam the bird flu is reported to have caused the death of some three people.
