Thousands takes holy dip at Kawnai
Nasik, Sept 04: Thousands of sadhus and pilgrims took a holy-dip at Kapildhara Teerth pond at Kawnai, about 35 kms from here in Igatpuri during the second `shahi snan.

Mahants of different akhadas, camping at Trimbakeshwar performed Ganga pooja and took shahi snan yesterday.
Ramnarayandas Phalharibaba, chief of Kapildhara teerth welcomed all sants, mahants, sadhus on the occasion.
Mahant Sohangiri, Tirthnandgiri, Surendragiri, Pralhadgiri, reached Kawnai in a royal procession. Meanwhile, the state government has provided financial assistance to develop Kawnai and provide adequate facilities to pilgrims, Phalharibaba said.
Legend says that Kumbh Mela was held in Kanwai till the 18th century. But due to inadequate facilities it was shifted to 'chakra teerth' in Nasik.
However, differences between sects of "bairagis" and "sanyasis" led the Kumbh Mela venue being shifted to Trimbakeshwar and Nasik respectively. Bureau Report
