Bhopal, Aug 13: The Madhya Pradesh cabinet sub-committee on drought today declared 31 districts of the state as drought-affected and ordered a contingency drinking water plan for the state capital. Chairing a meeting of the sub-committee, Chief Minister Digvijay Singh directed that a constant watch be maintained on remaining districts and visual assessment should be made every 15 days there, an official release said adding, in case the situation worsens then these districts also be declared as drought-affected. Singh sanctioned Rs 6.20 crore for relief works in the 31 drought affected districts and directed to work out a contingency plan for drinking water supply in Bhopal.

The 31 drought-affected districts are Shyopur, Morena, Bhind, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Datia, Ratlam, Shajapur, Mandsaur, Ujjain, Badwani, Raisen, Rajgarh, Sagar, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Jabalpur, Katni, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Dindori, Balaghat, Rewa, Shahdol, Umariya, Sidhi and Satna.
Reviewing the drinking water situation, the chief minister apprised himself of the latest situation.
The meeting was also informed that drinking water is being supplied alternate day in 92 cities, every third day in 19 towns and every fourth day in 13 towns.
