New Delhi, June 19: The Supreme Court today dismissed a bail petition filed by Subhash Gupta, convicted and sentenced to life in the 'Personal Point tripple murder case', but asked the Delhi High Court to expedite hearing of his plea challenging the conviction. A vacation bench comprising Justice R C Lahoti and Justice Brijesh Kumar refused to entertain the petition, which stated that he was suffering from severe and multiple illnesses and required to be released on bail for treatment.

Counsel for the petitioner, senior advocate K T S Tulsi stated that his client's petition had not been taken up for hearing on the sole ground that the state's appeal against acquittal of certain other accused in the case was not ready.

Tulsi said that Gupta, who was attacked in the prison by inmates, suffered from paralysis, depression, hyper-tension and arthritis and needed urgent medical attention.

However, the court rejected the plea for bail and asked the counsel to approach the high court.
Gupta, an MCD contractor, was sentenced to life on March 30, 2000 after the trial court found him guilty of abducting and killing Dr Suneel Kaul of personal point health clinic and two of the latter's employees Sujata Saha and Deepa Gupta in June 1996.
