New Delhi, Nov 20: Emphasising that terrorism has become a global concern after September 11 terrorist attack in United States, National Human Rights Commission Chairman J S Verma, however, today said in name of combating terrorism no country should throw human rights "to winds." Asserting that terrorism was a greatest violater of the human rights, Verma, however, said "one should not violate the human rights while tackling terrorism. You cannot protect human rights by violating human rights."
Expressing concern over the "global inequalities", Verma, speaking at the inauguration of international conference on "globalistaion, development and human rights", said one has to identify the dark patches in the process of globalisation and work on those. According to a survey, 86 per cent of the world's total wealth was enjoyed by only one-fifth of the population and the wealth of world's three most rich persons exceed the total GDP of 48 least developing countries, he said.
Verma also emphasised on globalisation of humanism if people of the world wanted to become part of the "global family". Bureau Report
