Chennai, Aug 15: A seasoned Vandana Agarwal of Kolkata, predictably clinched the South India Ladies Open Golf title, the season's opener for 2003 here at the cosmopolitan course today.
The 35-year-old oil India grade-B executive, who led the field of over 50 golfers from across the country from the first round, aggregated a total of 305 for four rounds followed by Mayali Talwar at 309 and Shalini Malick 312 for the second and third places.
Two experienced golfers, Anajali Chopra, a single handicapper and Shruti Khanna, top ranked in the country, had the consolation of finishing in fourth and fifth positions respectively after having been way behind the leaders yesterday.
Agarwal did not play like an experienced golfer and carded a 13-over par 85 today. She reasoned her poor show to the fact that she did not play to the course but played to her 16-stroke cushion. 'I was experimenting and taking all sorts of risks. But I am happy about my performance. I am driving and putting well and I had to improve on my short game' she said.
Delhi's Sharadanjali Singh claimed the handicap title with a net of 285 and Bhavana Shetty of Mysore was the runner up with 287.
