Silchar, Apr 12: Six persons have been arrested in connection with the massacre of 25 Dimasas by Hmar Peoples Convention (D) ultras and Hmar youths in Assam's Cachar district early this month. Official sources here said they were the first to be arrested since the massacre on April 1 when HPC (D) militants killed 25 persons, torched houses and rendered 450 people homeless in retaliatory violence on Dimasa people in Cachar district. The six were picked up today from a hill area near Jorakhal under Sonai police station when they were identified by villagers to be with the militants attacking the Dimasas.
On April 1, the ultras attacked over three villages under Sonai police station gunning down one and setting ablaze houses before kidnapping 28 persons from the nearby villages. Two days later 23 bullet-riddled bodies of the kidnapped Dimasas were recovered from the deep jungles of the remote Nastul Hills, under Sonai police station, followed by another the next day.
