Tikrit (Iraq), Oct 13: US forces in Iraq have detained 34 people suspected of involvement in attacks against US troops, a military spokeswoman said today.
"Over the past 24 hours we apprehended a number of individuals in local terrorist cells," said Major Josslyn Aberle, a spokeswoman for the US Army 4th Infantry Division based in Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit.
Troops raided a building near Balad, 75 kilometers north of Baghdad, where they detained 18 Iraqis "suspected of being members of a local terrorist cell involved in attacks against coalition troops," said Aberle.
In another raid, troops detained 16 people described as suspected members of a local "terrorist cell," including a mid-level member of Saddam's ousted regime, she said.
The troops also seized 13 assault rifles and ammunition in the raid.
