Colombo, Nov 10: The government of Sri Lankan
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said today it was ready
to face a snap election to head off a political crisis with
the president.
Government spokesman G L Peiris said the government
would welcome a special election as it was confident it could
increase its majority in Parliament.
"Given everything that has happened in the past four
days we have absolutely no doubt that the people will endorse
what we have been doing and we have no problems going before
the people and in fact we welcome it," he told reporters
after a meeting of ministers chaired by Wickremesinghe.
