Chennai, Oct 17: The condition of Union Industries and Commerce Minister Murasoli Maran is serious with a "systemic" setback in his general condition. "He is on ventilatory support and renal dialysis", a medical bulletin issued by the Apollo Hospitals where he is undergoing treatment, said today. Maran was admitted to the hospital on September 23 with high fever and he underwent a surgery for replacing his infected mitral valve two days later. The minister had undergone venticular septal ablation in November 2000 in the city for 'obstructive cardiomyopathy', a rare heart complication. His mitral valve was replaced in July last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and it got infected subsequently, following which he was admitted to the corporate hospital with high fever.
Prime Minister A B Vajpayee rang up Dr P C Reddy, chairman of the hospital, to enquire about Maran's health today.
