Madurai, Dec 27: DMK members today held a rally in the city to condemn what they termed as "atrocities and misrule" of the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu. The show of unity among the cadres, especially due to then presence of two factions, one led by K S Azhagiri and the other by M K Stalin, was a noticeable feature of the rally. Initially, there was "some tension" when the two leaders along with their supporters came for the rally. However, all was well as stalin walked upto Azhigiri and asked him to lead the rally. Former state minister Duraimurugan was also present. Azhigiri, addressing the members, said the rally was not merely political, but a part of the struggle against alleged "misrule" of the Jayalalithaa-led government in the state.
Duraimurugan claimed that the rally was one of the biggest ever organised in the state and had disappointed those who expected it to fizzle out.
The members condemned withdrawal of several free schemes including wedding scheme, free bus pass for students, hike in ration rice price, withdrawal of concessions to government employees and Anti-Conversion Act. Bureau Report
