Srinagar, Mar 07: As many as 600 unauthorised constructions have come up in the green belt and areas adjacent to Dal lake posing threat to the water body, a government report said today. The report by a three-member committee constituted by Jammu and Kashmir government under Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Parvez Dewan to identify unauthorised constructions and encroachments in the green belt and adjacent areas of the lake was today submitted to the government. Housing and urban development minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, who received the report, said the government would initiate appropriate action after examining the report. Meanwhile, the government today served an ultimatum to the hoteliers at boulevard on the banks of Dal Lake to remove unauthorised constructions and encroachments within a week, failing which government would take stern action against them. The ultimatum was served by the minister for housing and urban development Ghulam Hassan Mir during a meeting with the hoteliers today.

The state High Court, which ordered attachment of the residence of the Director General of Police A K Suri coming up in the green belt on Tuesday, had given a week's time to the government yesterday to clear its stand as to how it will go to deal with the illegal constructions in the green belt.
