New Delhi, Nov 30: Stock broker Late Harshad Mehta and three companies of Sahara group are among the top 20 individuals and corporate bodies defaulting on income tax with arrears totalling Rs 246.59 billion as on June 30, 2002, Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.
Mehta owed Rs 54.29 billion arrears, A D Narottam (Rs 35.64 bn), Sahara India Financial Corporation (Rs 31.92 bn) Hiten Dalal (Rs 20.86 bn) and Northern Coal Fields (Rs 18.57 bn), Minister of State for Finance and Company Affairs G N Ramachandran said in a written answer.

Arrears against Sahara India Mutual Benefit Co was Rs 10. 2 bn, Shaw Wallace (Rs 9.44 bn), Bhupinder Dalal (Rs 7.45 bn), Maruti Udyog (Rs 7.39 bn), IDBI (Rs 7.37 bn) Ashwin Mehta (Rs 6.4 bn), VSNL (5.69 bn), S Ramaswamy (5.64 bn), Growmore Research and Asset Mngt (Rs 4.02 bn), Rolex Holdings (Rs 3.89 bn), Sahara India Airlines (Rs 3.83 bn), Max Telecom Ventures (Rs 3.7 bn), GTC Industries (Rs 3.67 bn), Triumph International (Rs 3.42 bn) and Ganapati Exp (Rs 3.26 bn), he said.
