Sao Paulo (Brazil), Aug 16: Sao Paulo star midfielder Kaka has been transferred to European champion AC Milan.
Kaka, whose real name is Ricardo Izecson Santos Leite,
will sign a five-year contract in which Milan will pay Sao
Paulo US$8.5 million, according to a statement released by the
Brazilian club yesterday.
The club said Kaka waived the 15 per cent signing-on fee to which he was entitled. It did not explain his reasons.
Although the statement provided no further details, the pele.net web site reported Kaka would receive US$2.2 million per season.
Kaka was a member of Brazil's world cup-winning squad in 2002, and starred in Brazil's under-23 team which lost last month's Concacaf Gold Cup final to Mexico.
He will team with Brazil's World Cup captain Cafu, another new arrival at Milan's San Siro stadium, for the start of its series A campaign on September 01.
Kaka is expected to join his new team early next week.
