Islamabad, Aug 04: France on Saturday said that Pakistan has assured without any "caveats" that cross-border infiltration into Kashmir will be stopped and described coming elections in Jammu and Kashmir as a milestone. Addressing a press conference here after holding talks with the military ruler, visiting French foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin said Musharraf expressed his full determination to fight terrorism and has given an assurance without any "caveat" that infiltration of militants across the the Line of control will be stopped.

"All steps necessary for reduction of tension in the region and confidence building should be taken", he said
Describing infiltration as the source of tension between India and Pakistan, Villepin said Pakistan`s efforts to end infiltration into Kashmir would reinforce Islamabad`s position at international level.
The French Minister said "We want stability in South Asia. Let us be clear, I do not intend to interfere with an issue that must be settled between India and Pakistan." On the coming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, he said it was a "milestone". Bureau Report
