Mumbai, Apr 14: Republican Party of India MP Ramdas Athavale today stepped down from the presidentship of his faction of RPI. He said he took the step "to realise Dr B R Ambedkar's dream of a strong and unified RPI".
"I also exhort other factions of RPI to come together for realising Ambedkar's dream on his 112th birth anniversary today," Athavale said while announcing his decision at a press conference here.
Admitting that the contentious issue of the presidentship of unified RPI had earlier caused spilt in the party, Athavale said he had quit the post to ensure that his presidentship does not come in the way of the unification process.
