Valencia, Mar 03: Jenson Button and Takuma Sato prepare for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
The BAR Formula One team have gone to Melbourne for Sunday's (March 7) Grand Prix having driven the new BAR Honda 006 for long distances in an effort to test the new car's reliability. For the 2004 season each driver will only be able to use one engine per race weekend and reliability will be at a premium. This year the car has been proving very fast in testing with Honda producing a more powerful engine and the chassis proving to be more predictable and easier to drive. Team leader Jenson Button of Britain said that the team has set itself the task of finishing on the podium consistently in the 2004 season. A place on the podium at Melbourne would start the season as the team expected to continue, he said. Former test driver Takuma Sato of Japan said that it was very interesting to see how the 2004 car compared with the 2003 car. He said he was excited by the development of the new car and was looking forward to the start of the season.
