Quetta, Sept 17: Pakistan today released 15 Afghan prisoners held in the southwestern city of Quetta for more than six months for entering the country illegally, officials said.

The prisoners were received by Afghan Consul General Sadiq Daudzai after being freed from Quetta jail.
They had been arrested in various parts of the southwestern province of Baluchistan, said that the Deputy Superintendent of the jail, Abdullah.
Daudzai welcomed the release, saying that it followed a recent agreement between the two countries that people involved in minor crimes would be freed.
"We are also seeking release of people who have passed age 60 but are not involved in serious crimes like terrorism, sabotage and drug trafficking," he said.
The consul general provided some cash assistance to the released prisoners. They would be escorted by police to the border and deported later in the evening, Abdullah said.
