Jamshedpur, Apr 13: Railway Minister Nitish Kumar today flagged off a new bi-weekly express train to Amritsar from Tatanagar under Chakradharpur division of the south eastern railway. The train, which was initially named Tata-Amritsar Express, was re-christened Jalianwalabagh Express following the demand of Sikh community here as the day coincided with that of the infamous Jalianwalabagh Massacre of 1919.
Kumar said the new name was given on the spot to pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for freedom of the country. Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, while addressing the gathering, also requested Kumar to christen the train as Jalianwalabag Express.
Kumar regretted that though the railway ministry has fulfilled almost all the promises regarding development of Jharkhand, new demands were being raised. About six projects were taken up by the railways in the state which would be completed within five years. Stating that availability of land remained a stumbling block in the progress of work, the railway minister urged the state government to look into it. However, all resources were being utilised and work was going on fast to meet the time-frame, he said. Bureau Report
