Ericsson Telecommunications on Thursday bagged the north zone GSM infrastructure business worth Rs 640 crore from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., even as it is negotiating the order for east zone. We will be adding a total capacity of 1.05 million subscribers in north zone covering Uttar Pradesh (W), Uttar Pradesh (E), Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, vice president (marketing and technical solutions), Ericsson Telecommuniactions Rohit Chandra said. The five-year contract is expected to be completed in eight months for Wich Ericsson would supply, implement and support core GSM infrastructure along with microwave equipment, billing customer care solutions, WAP and unified messaging services, it said. The tender for the east zone involves setting up a network capacity of 466,000 connections in the states of Bihar, Orissa, West Bengal, Assam and other north-eastern states, Chandra said.
