New Delhi, Nov 25: If Sri Lanka expected India to lend political recognition to the Oslo peace process through participation in the November 25 Donors` Conference in Oslo, it must be sorely disappointed. The content of the meeting between External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha and two Sri Lankan ministers in the Capital here on Friday was an unambiguous comment on the nature of India`s commitment to the ethnic strife-ridden nation - namely, economic assistance. Sri Lanka`s Minister of Economic Reforms Milinda Moragoda and Minister of Port Development and Shipping Development Rauff Hakeem met Mr Sinha in the context of the "ongoing process of close consultations," the MEA said.

India has promised a $100 million Line of Credit on very liberal terms to Sri Lanka, with the rider that the goods should be Indian. A $20-million programme loan and $7.5-million assistance for a cancer centre were also announced. Additionally, assistance in education and vocational training and 3,000 tonnes of wheat at very liberal terms featured in the list.
