New Delhi, Aug 13: Ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir has conveyed strong disapproval of the newly formed Jethmalani Kashmir Committee's demand for imposition of Governor's rule in the state ahead of the forthcoming polls.
The minister of state for external affairs Omar Abdullah met the former union law minister, Ram Jethmalani and members of his unofficial team last evening and expressed resentment over the demand. Although Jethmalani had told reporters last evening that he discussed thread-bare all issues with Omar, sources close to the NC chief said the committee was told in no uncertain terms that there could be no Governor's rule in the state as such precedence was not found anywhere in the country.
A member of the committee raised the issue of alleged coercion by security forces in the state for people to obtain the voters identity card to which the NC president said it was necessary to keep militants at bay as they would not be able to acquire the new card made on a special paper from Nashik security press. Two officials from the political division of the US embassy had also come last evening for a meeting with Jethmalani, who, however, claimed that it was his personal appointment with the officials.
