The meeting between the trade union representatives of the agitating Tamil Nadu transport workers, whose strike entered the seventh day on Thursday, and chief minister O Panneerselvam to break the deadlock over the bonus issue, failed to reach any conclusion. The trade union leaders would hold a separate meeting with transport minister Nainar Nagendran Thursday evening, the joint action council of transport corporation workers said.
Meanwhile, the striking workers, especially in Madurai and Coimbatore, were joined by their families in their picketing programmes. Though total official figures were yet to reach the state headquarters, reports say that several hundreds, including some children, were taken into custody on Thursday in various parts of the state. City police commissioner K Muthukaruppan told newsmen that a little over 1375 people had been arrested in the city till date.
Besides, thirteen buses had been damaged by agitating workers so far, he added.
