Nagpur, Oct 16: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi has called upon Dalits to live with self respect and pride and carry forward the torch lit by father of Indian Constitution Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Mr Jogi was addressing a huge rally late Tuesday evening at the ''46th Dammachakra Pravartin Din'' to commemorate the event of October 14, 1956, when the late Dr Ambedkar embraced Buddhism alongwith thousands of followers at 'Deeksha Bhoomi' in Nagpur. Dr Ambedkar gave constitutional rights to the teeming millions of backward class, Mr Jogi said and exhorted the Dalits to walk with their heads high.
Blaiming the Bharatiya Janata Party for its bid to amend the constitution by setting up a commission to go into it, he said, it was Nagpur where Congress President Sonia Gandhi took the pledge to foil any attempt in this regard.
The government was publishing the works of Phule-Shahu Maharaj-Ambedkar and would put the same on the internet and make CD-Roms to take their teachings to the world, he said. RPI leader R S Gavai in his address said that the Memorial Committee was trying to build a corpus of Rs 10 crore so that the world class memorial of Dr Ambedkar could be maintained from its interest and allied activities could also be undertaken. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Rajya Sabha member Datta Meghe announced a contribution of Rs one lakh towards the corpus fund.
