Ahmedabad, June 10: Gujarat, presently reeling under a severe heatwave, is expected to receive regular rainfall by July 1, though pre-monsoon showers may hit the state within two or three days, Meteorological Department (MeT) said here today. Though the city recorded its highest temperature of 44 degrees two days ago, the overcast sky has led the mercury to dip by at least two degress since yesterday.

The change in temperature has also caused strong winds to blow across many parts of the state and one such gush caused a watch tower to collapse in Aslali on the city outskirts killing one person and injuring two others on Sunday.

MeT director R K Kankane said that regular monsoon will cover the entire state, including the desert regions of Kutch-Bhuj by July 1 while Ahmedabad would have rains by June 14.

Kankane said pre-monsoon showers are expected to hit the coastal area of Veraval by June 11 and in other districts including Surat by June 12, Ahmedabad by June 14 and Rajkot by June 15.
The official said the pre-monsoon showers in Mumbai city and other parts of Maharashtra had also caused the temperature to dip in the state.

Sabarkantha district recorded the highest temperature in the state during the heatwave and one woman had died due to sunstroke two weeks ago.
