Lucknow, Sept 18: In the first major shake-up in the police department since Mulayam Singh Yadav assumed office as Chief Minister, the Uttar Pradesh government has transferred 48 IPS officers, official sources here said today. Those shifted include the Additional Director General (ADG), Inspector Generals, DIGs and district police chiefs.
IG Lucknow, A K Jain, has been replaced by V N Rai, who was awaiting posting. Jain is to be assigned a new posting.
ADG Haramol Singh and U Kbansal, awaiting postings, go to anti-corruption organisation in Agra and ADG technical service, Lucknow, respectively in the same capacity.
The government also shifted the IGs of Varanasi, Gorakhpur and the DIGs of Varanasi, Basti and Saharanpur range.
Besides, the district police chiefs of Sultanpur, Jyotiba Phule Nagar and Rae Bareli have also been transferred, sources said.
