Pakistan Cricket Board on Wednesday said it will react to the punishments given to six Indian cricketers by match-referee Mike Denness in South Africa only after going through all the details even as the news was given prominent coverage by the local media in Islamabad.
PCB executive director Brig Munawwar Rana said that all the board functionaries including chairman Lt Gen Tauqir Zia were busy attending the second limited-overs match between the under-19 teams of Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi and they were yet to study the statement of the match-referee.
Meanwhile, all the main newspapers in Islamabad prominently published the news though the details of the punishment was not provided. A leading newspaper 'dawn' carried a comprehensive copy on Denness' decision and also published BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya's demand for the removal of the match- referee. The newspaper's sports columnist Omar Kureshi said the umpiring in the second test between India and South Africa had been below standard.
