Bangalore, Oct 26: Bangalore City Corporation health authorities have found fungus formation in a chocolate sample during a random test of sweets sold at outlets in the city. "We have found a sample of a reputed brand with fungus formation. It has been sent to the BCC's food testing laboratory for analysis," BCC chief health officer Dr Susheela Shekar said today.
Declining to name the brand of chocolate, she said the laboratory report was expected in a day or two. The samples are being collected randomly by BCC officials from retail outlets since the last 10 days to keep a tab on quality of sweets and chocolates sold during the Diwali season when high consumption of sweets is registered.
Shekar said some chocolates whose expiry dates had lapsed were also recovered from shops and officials had initiated action against the shopkeepers under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act. "We are highlighting to the people to be aware and look for fungus or worm infested chocolates, before making their purchases," she said. Bureau Report
