Allahabad, Jan 16: Agitating lawyers of the Allahabad High Court today abstained from work on the fourth consecutive day and adopted a resolution urging the Bar Associations across Uttar Pradesh to join their agitation in protest against the court fee hike on writ petitions, announced by the state government recently. They blocked road traffic for couple of hours on Kanpur road and burnt copies of the state government ordinance by which the court fees on writ petitions was hiked to Rs 2500 from Rs 100. A meeting of the agitating lawyers passed a resolution for continuing the agitation till the "black law" was withdrawn by the state government. A resolution opposing the hike in court fees was also adopted saying that it amounted to denial of justice to poor litigants, besides making justice costly.

They also appealed to the students union, advocates clerks associations, employees union and political parties to extend their support on the issue and compel the state government to withdraw the ordinance.

The bar association further urged the state government to convene a session of the state assembly immediately for reconsidering the "black ordinance" on the ground that the hike was against the declared policy of the government for justice for the poor.
