New Delhi, Oct 29: Reva Electric Car Company (Recc) said it would launch an air-conditioned and a sports variant of its electric car 'Reva' this year as part of efforts to boost sales of the non-polluting vehicle. "We will soon launch the air-conditioned version of the existing 'classic' model and also a sports variant," a senior company official told a news agency here.

He, however, declined to give details about the sports version of 'Reva' saying research and development work was on and that the model would be launched by December 2002. The company expects the two new versions to help it achieve sales of 550 cars this year, the official said.

The Bangalore-based firm uses technology from US-based Amerigon Vehicle Technology for manufacturing the car.

RECC, which is promoted by the Maini group, had launched the first model of 'Reva' in June 2001 and has sold nearly 300 units till date. During the first half this fiscal, the company has sold 130 units of the car in the domestic market. Besides, it has also tied-up with an UK-based organisation to market the car in the European market.

RECC plans to double its production capacity to 3,000 cars annually by 2004, the official said adding the dealership network would also be expanded to 30 from the present 16 by March next year. Bureau Report
